Western Power releases 11th edition of Underground Distribution Schemes manual

The Underground Distribution Scheme (UDS) manual has been reviewed, updated and now reissued as the 11th edition, superseding all previous editions of this manual.
This manual contains the information required by developers and their electrical consultants to allow them to undertake the electrical reticulation of new subdivisions.

Click on 'Read more' to view the 11th edition revisions, which apply from 11 January 2016.

The implementation of the 11th edition of the manual applies to projects from 11 January 2016 as follows:

Project designs issued with a DIP package prior to the publication of the 11th edition of the UDS may be completed in accordance with the requirements of the 10th edition of the UDS Manual, however application of the new edition is encouraged as soon as practically possible. Edition 10 cannot be applied beyond Western Power's issued information package validity period which is within 6 months from the date of issue. (Refer clause 4.3.2.3).

Where work has commenced or formal contracts to undertake UDS works were signed prior to the publication of these requirements Western Power may grant permission, on receipt of an application for exemption from these amended requirements. Exemption will not be granted where there is a safety concern.

The amended information contained within the 11th edition of the UDS Manual and subsequent amendments is not retrospective from the date of publication unless an existing development or part thereof constitutes a safety issue as determined by Western Power.
