Update on public health order relating to mandatory vaccinations

The Government has released the public health order (the Order) which gives legal effect to the vaccination mandate in the building and construction industry.

However, the content of the Order is not what NECA expected and has, in fact, raised some serious issues.

In a nutshell, we expected the Order to require all workers within the building and construction industry to be vaccinated. This was the government’s message throughout the consultation period, in which NECA was heavily involved.

However, the Order appears to allow non-vaccinated workers to undertake residential maintenance work.

If this is the case, the Order will create an enormous amount of confusion within the industry and make workforce management extremely difficult.

We have requested urgent clarification from the state government in regard to this issue and will provide an update to members as soon as we have more information.
