Update - 2 years' experience before obtaining an Electrical Contractors Licence

As previously advised in an earlier eNews, NECA WA has been working with the Electrical Licensing Board and CET to change the eligibility requirements for obtaining a contractor licence.

Initially we sought a 2 year post trade experience requirement to be established for anyone wanting to obtain an Electrical Contractors Licence. The Electrical Licensing Board are prepared to implement this for those seeking a nominee license.

Whilst we still believe all contractors would benefit from the 2 years’ experience, we accept the decision.

We are also continuing to lobby the Electrical Licensing Board to push for the harmonisation of delivery and assessment across the training providers related to the Electrical Contractor Training Program, to ensure that the course provides participants with a robust understanding of the business, finance and pricing aspects of running a contracting business.
