Summer is fire season - is your business prepared?
In January 2009, a bush fire at Two Rocks appeared to have originated near a Western Power 22KV overhead power line. It is believed that a private power pole sparked a fire in Parkerville in January 2014 that destroyed 55 properties. In February 2014 two people received serious burns from contact with HV while trying to fight a grass fire believed to be started by a felled private power pole. Fires happen every year in a variety of places, for a myriad of reasons, and the impact is often more than just material loss. Even for a business, there is more than material loss to consider; interruption, inconvenience and sometimes injuries.
Make sure your business is prepared: •
Do you know what/where the fire hazards are?
•
What should be done to avoid, eliminate or reduce fire and/or explosion hazards?
•
Do you have a plan if an emergency should happen?
•
Have your employees been instructed on emergency procedures?
•
If you have emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers, are your people trained on how to use them?
•
Who should be contacted if an emergency occurs?
•
What training has been provided?
