Western Power recently introduced a new publication known as the Switchboard Arrangements for Small Strata Lot Development Guideline (see link below) and in February this year amended the Western Australian Distribution Connections Manual to reflect the requirements of the guideline.
One of the requirements that has changed is the number of connections permissible to a distribution pillar. It is now only permissible to have two freehold lots connected to one pillar. Therefore any small strata development up to and including 4 lots will require a site main switchboard capable of supplying a standard three phase supply for each of the lots to be installed.
This requirement is not new, as Western Power have been including this requirement as a condition for this type of development when applications are made through the Western Australian Planning Commission for several years, along with the requirement for any existing dwelling to be connected via the site main switchboard.
