Sealing of switchboard cable entries and enclosures

ECA WA is currently in discussion with Building and Energy following concerns being raised over the number of Inspectors Orders issued on switchboard cable entries being inadequately sealed where additional circuits are installed.

To alleviate this problem and to properly advise members, ECA WA is assisting Building and Energy in producing clear and concise guidelines as to where sealing is required and the correct means of achieving this.

The standards for new installations are very clear however some confusion exists where additions and alterations occur to existing switchboard enclosures, which were installed prior to the sealing requirement being in force.

Members can assist by forwarding relevant photographs of unenclosed switchboards or cable entries that they come across to ECA WA will forward these examples to Building and Energy to further clarify the problems members are encountering.
