NECA Technical have received a number of enquiries regarding Western Power requesting a completion notice number prior to reconnection of supply, after a repair to a mains connection box or other fault requiring disconnection of supply. One contractor we spoke with believed that as it was emergency work, notification was not required.
While emergency work is exempted under the Electrical (Licensing) Regulations 1991, once supply is disconnected the installation is considered safe. Therefore it is no longer considered an emergency, as supply has been disconnected and the repair becomes notifiable under regulation 51(2)(c) (ii) of the Electrical (Licensing) Regulations 1991.
We would also like to remind members that when repairing or replacing a mains connection box, the minimum height to the bottom of the service cable loop is 2.5m.
