There have been several recent cases in Australia where businesses in the construction industry have been penalised for unsafe work practices.
Employers have a duty of care under the OSH Act to, so far as practicable, provide and maintain a working environment where their employees are not exposed to hazards.
Examples of general duties:
1) Employers must provide a workplace where employees are not exposed to hazards
2) Employers must provide a safe system of work
3) Employers must provide employees with information, instruction, training and supervision to allow them to work in a safe manner
