Potential trap with transportable structures

28 July 2022

The wiring requirements for a transportable structure is determined by the connection arrangement. Structures that are connected via a detachable connection must meet the requirements of both AS/NZS 3000:2018 and AS/NZS 3001:2008 and will require all switches to be switched to all poles, active and neutral. When structures are connected via fixed wiring, they are only required to comply with AS/NZS 3000:2018.

While this seems simple, it can also create a potential trap when the transportable structures are transported to different sites and the connection method changes.

Contractors and their workers need to be aware that if a structure connection method is changed from fixed wiring to a detachable lead, then all switches will need to be checked and replaced with all pole switches, if required.
