Due to recent inclement weather NECA Technical has received a number of enquiries regarding repairs to points of attachment and mains connection boxes in overhead supplied areas and the minimum requirements when undertaking the repair.
If the existing point of attachment meets the minimum height requirement of 2.5 metres to the bottom of the service cable loop and the repair is a like-for-like replacement, then there is no requirement to upgrade the existing consumer mains.
However if this cannot be achieved and the point of attachment or mains connection box need to be relocated or altered, then the consumer mains will need to be brought up to current standard of double insulated cable in heavy duty conduit.
Members are also reminded that any work that requires the disconnection of supply is notifiable work and the network operator will not reconnect without a preliminary notice number.
