New Wiring Rules Proposed Transition
The 2018 edition of AS/NZS 3000:2018, Electrical Installations (known as the Wiring Rules) has been released with key updates in important areas, such as main switches, residual current devices (RCDs) and DC wiring systems.
Electrical contractors will have a 6 month transition period for compliance. That transition period will finish and the new rules will be the single source of compliance from 1 January 2019.
The proposed transition arrangement will be based on the submission of Preliminary Notices and Notice of Completion as follows:
- Preliminary Notice before 1 January 2019 - can be based on AS/NZS 3000:2007
- Notice of Completion before 1 January 2019 - can be based on AS/NZS 3000:2007
- Preliminary Notice after I January 2019 - must be based on AS/NZS 3000:2018 unless it applies to a project designed, tendered for and awarded but not started before the end of 2018.
- Notice of Completion after 1 January 2019 - must be based on AS/NZS 3000:2018 unless it applies to a project designed, tendered for and awarded in 2018 but completed in 2019 or to a project completed just before the end of 2018, where the Notice of Completion is submitted early in 2019.
Building and Energy (formerly EnergySafety) will confirm the final transition arrangements shortly.
