NECA Technical - Entering private land

A NECA member recently shared a situation in which private land was being accessed without appropriate entry considerations being taken.

Private land owners can apply to Western Power to have their properties registered for access for maintenance works. This is often done to prevent potential damage to crops and livestock from contaminants from vehicles, plants, equipment etc.

NECA Technical would like to remind members to be vigilant in looking for this signage and/or asking customers upfront so as to minimise the risk of spreading contaminants. Consequences of not doing this may include damage to organic crops or compromising the strict milking requirements of dairy farms. Where damage occurs, the costs associated with legal proceedings could be horrendous if the electrical contractor was found to be responsible.
