Installing electric vehicle chargers

As electric vehicles (EV) increase in popularity, the installation of EV chargers is becoming a more common request for electricians.

NECA Technical recommend that members consult the manufacturer's instructions, Appendix P of the Wiring Rules and the Western Australian Service and Installation Requirements (WASIR).

Manufacturer's instructions

Generally, EV chargers need to be installed as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Appendix P - Guidance for installation and location of electrical vehicle socket-outlets and charging stations of AS/NZS 3000:2018 provides further guidance in regard to the installation and location.

Members also need to be aware of the requirements outlined in the WASIR, particularly clause 10.11.6.
