Installation of Type AC RCDS banned after 30 April

26 March 2023

As per Clause 2.6.2.2.2 in the Wiring Rules, Type AC RCDs must not be installed in Australia after 30 April 2023. This means that any Preliminary Notice or Notice of Completion submitted after this date requires a Type A RCD to help protect circuits containing both AC and DC operated equipment with electronic components.

Type A RCDs are designed to operate on both residual sinusoidal alternating current and residual pulsating direct currents. This would also apply to builders poles, as these are regarded as an installation and electronic components used by the building industry are plugged into these poles.
