The use of standby generators is becoming increasingly common and often they will be installed on properties with grid connected inverters.
While this is permissible, it is important to be aware that the grid connected inverter cannot be downstream of the generating set change over device (clause 2.7.1 of AS/NZS 3010 and Clause 7.3.4.1 of AS/NZS 3000). This is to prevent the inverter back feeding into the generator.
There is an exception to this when suitable control systems prevent back feed to the generator. Figure 2.1 from AS/NZS 3010 below shows the required configuration.
