An electrical contractor and electrician have recently received substantial fines for dangerous electrical work.
The electrical worker left a metal meter box unearthed and incorrectly wired a socket outlet, which could have resulted in a very dangerous situation.
Electrical workers must ensure that all electrical work is checked and tested prior to leaving the site and that records are kept for five years, as per the Electrical Licensing Regulations 1991 Reg 52(2D)(a)(b).
The Electrical Contractor was prosecuted for submitting a Notice of Completion certifying that the installation was safe, checked and tested. Nominees are required to satisfy themselves that the installation is safe and complies with the current regulations. This can be achieved by inspection, checking test results and photos etc.
