The Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council (ERAC) have advised NECA that some brands of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) inverters are being supplied with a transfer switch arrangement that could result in a non-compliant installation.
The arrangement in these inverters could bypass the installation's MEN and, as a result, downstream RCDs and RCBOs supplying the final sub-circuit will not operate. The inverters must be installed to comply with Australian installation conditions as specified in AS/NZS 3000:2018 (clause 22.214.171.124.2) and AS/NZS 4777.1:2016 (clauses 5.4.4, 5.4.3 and 5.4.1), including manufacturing standard requirements of AS/NZS 4777.2:2020.
